It won’t happen if you never try – Kaira Rouda

Writing is both a joy, and hard work. Writing a novel is said to be one of the top dreams of all people around the world. And it’s a dream that doesn’t become reality for too many because they give up before they even get started.♥

I know, because this almost happened to me. My novel writing career didn’t begin until six years ago. Up until that time, I’d been busy being a mom, a journalist, a magazine writer and a marketing expert. I even wrote a business book for women entrepreneurs and spoke around the U.S. encouraging women to put their passions into action. All in all, it was a wonderful career, but I hadn’t listened to my own advice. I’d wanted to be a novelist since I was a child. And yet, I hadn’t tried.

So finally, I sat down, and wrote a story. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start. The next book was better. I went to a writers’ conference. I took classes online. I perfected my craft, and I kept writing. When my first novel was published it was the most wonderful feeling of accomplishment, and yet, I knew I had more stories in me. I have learned that stories beget stories. There is no set amount of creative inspiration. You don’t use it up, you create more ideas as you go.

The magic of the creative spirit is a wonderful thing to experience. When a character takes over my keyboard and begins to tell his or her story, it’s thrilling. My husband laughs and says he loves to watch my face while I’m writing. Apparently, I make facial expressions and act out the character. I’m not sure because when I’m in those moments, I’m enjoying the magic.

Of course, the spirit isn’t there everyday. Some days I’ll sit down at the computer and nothing flows. But that’s fine, as long as I give it a try again the next day, and the next. Because one thing is for sure, if you never get started, it won’t happen. And if writing a novel is your dream, your passion, why not give it a try. I’m so glad I did.

Since jumping into writing fiction I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many extraordinary women authors, bloggers and readers. Several encouraged me to write a book for women authors, and those who want to become authors. So I did. It’s based on my advice for women entrepreneurs, which authors are shining examples of, of course. It’s free to download on my website,

Kaira Rouda’s latest novel, Best Day Ever, is out now. Publisher’s Weekly calls it: “A tensely written, shocking book tat will hold reader’s on the edge of their seats to the very last page.” Kaira lives in Southern California with her family where she is at work on her next novel.
