Author Jane Green needs barely any introduction; she’s been writing first-class contemporary fiction for two decades and is still at the top of her game. Her nineteenth novel, The Sunshine Sisters, has just been released, and last year saw the release of her debut cookbook, Good Taste. Jane continues to go from strength to strength, so who better to drop in and share her who, what, when where and why.♥

1. Who has been the most important person in your writing journey?

I honestly have to say it has been Freya North, who is one of my oldest friends. Years ago, when I first started, she told me that when you draw your characters correctly, they tell their own stories, and it has remained the best advice I have ever been given.

2. What motivates you to write?

The fact that I have four children to put through college in America (which is shockingly expensive) is a pretty damn good motivator, it has to be said. Also, the fact that I work out how I feel about everything in life through the words that flow out from my fingers. Writing my novels is like free therapy.

3. When did you first start writing?

I have always written, but published my first book, Straight Talking, when I was 27.

4. Where do you write?

I now share an office with Lauren Weisberger (the author of The Devil Wears Prada). I spend far too much time re-decorating the office and chatting to Lauren, but luckily she has an excellent work ethic and insists the pair of us take ourselves offline and get writing done each day.

5. Why did you write this book?

I always wanted sisters, so this was the way I got them.

Jane Green is published in over 25 languages, and has over ten million books in print worldwide. Together with writing books and blogs, she contributes to various publications, both online and print, including anthologies and novellas. Her latest novel, The Sunshine Sisters, is out now.
